Hide and Seek
A varsity football coach recently described a player on the team as a "hider" - he hides on the sidelines so he won't have to go in the game. My son told me last week that when he was on the middle school basketball team he would dread the coach walking down the bench for fear that he would say his name to go in the game! Both of these young men were hiding rather than seeking action in the game. Other competitors do the opposite, they force their way past everyone to be right next to the coach in hopes that coach seeing them will give coach the idea that they should be put in the game. Hiders and seekers.
Spiritually, I know hiders and seekers. Pastors and ministry leaders have to get really creative to beg people to serve while the hiders resist being called into service. When I was a young Christian, I would hide from things like speaking publicly about my faith, sharing Christ one on one, being bold about my faith. I was the opposite of Isaiah. Check out Isaiah choosing the path of seeker rather than hider...
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me. ~ Isaiah 6:8
Are you hiding or seeking? If you are hiding, ask the Lord to give you courage and take the first step of getting onto the field of action. Getting off the sidelines and into the game will awaken a passion in you and make you wish you had done it much sooner. What are you waiting for? Say these words to the Lord: Here I am. Send me.
